Painted in a modern deconstructed style, Derrick’s landscapes are slightly distressed to highlight the natural grains and imperfections of the historic wood they are painted on,  developing a look that is both nostalgic and contemporary.  Each of his landscapes start with charcoal renderings that are then layered with washes of acrylic.  Paint is applied, then sanded back repeatedly, allowing hues to bleed through each other and details to fall into vague forms.  His works are sealed with a tinted oil glaze
